There are four types of conjuncts letter in Hindi. They are as follows :-

1. Vertical-lined letters,
2. Circular letters,
3. Right-curved letters, and
4. Special type-र letter.

This group contains only one letter ' र ' On account of three different shapes in combination, this letter is placed in a separate group.

Consonant 'ra' has got three shapes in combinations

E.g

1. द्र 3. र्म

1. While forming the second consonant of the combination letter 'र' is represented in the form of (). This form is always written in the middle and foot of the letter.

E.g

1. ग् + र = ग्र - ग्रह - Planet
2. क् + र = क्र - चक्र - Wheel
3. ब् + र = ब्र - सब्र - Patience
4. प् + र = प्र - प्रजा - People
5. ह् + र = ह्र - ह्रास -

2. When the letter 'र' combines with the first four letters of the 'ट' group in the second place it takes the shape of (). This form is applied at the bottom of the letter.

E.g

2. ड् + र = ड्र - ड्रामा - Drama
3. ठ् + र = ठ्र - ठ्रक -

3. While forming the first consonant of the combination letter 'र' assumes the shape of ().This form is written at the top of the second letter.

2. र् + थ = र्थ - अर्थ - Meaning
